I’ve been deathly afraid of things that can fly and sting ever since I can remember. I’m the crazy lady that you see waving her arms, screaming, and running for the nearest exit if I even think one of these insects could possibly be near me. My flailing arms technique has miraculously and dumfoundedly worked all my life…that is until I recently got my first wasp sting. Thank goodness it was one of the miniature wasps so the sting wasn’t too bad. In fact, I wasn’t sure I was stung at all until after 5 minutes when my ankle started to swell up. I think I would’ve appreciated the wasp picking another location to sting me because I think everything and their mamma has been feasting on my ankles as of late…chiggers, sand flies, mosquitoes…now wasps?
Anyway, the whole incident happened by surprise as the hubs and I were lounging on the patio. The oscillating fan was blowing on both of us when bam…and you know the rest. For a couple days I was afraid to turn the fan back on for fear of another kamikaze wasp looking forward to 72 virgin wasps in wasp heaven until the hubs came up with a pretty ingenious idea that’ll work no matter where you are in the world. He wrapped the front of the oscillating fan with mosquito netting and voila…all kamikaze wasps, among other things, are stopped dead in their tracks! Dead because the hubs didn’t wrap mosquito netting around the back of the fan; he’d rather see the successfulness of “his” invention by checking the blade housing. I can vouch that we’ve seen a few casualties in there.
And yes…I still run around in circles with my arms flapping wildly about when flying things that sting come near. It’s worked all these years and I hope it works for many more
